Magic Portion

Dawa is the Swahili word for medicine. It’s also the drink of choice around the Swahili coast.  It’s so called because, frankly, it heals.  Here’s a recipe and should you be on the coast, please order one or two or three or four BUT make sure that  it’s prepared properly without cold drink added in. It must always be served in a whiskey glass.

Put lime and sugar into a whisky tumbler, crush limes slightly, add ice and pour in the vodka, twist a dawa stick into some honey and add the stick to the drink. A wooden honey stick or other type of stick twisted in honey will work, muddle limes with dawa or honey stick. The more you crush the limes into the mixture and stir the sweeter the taste. About leratomogoatlhe

I fell in love with traveling Africa on a four day trip to Accra in 2006. I started my journeys around the continent in 2008, when I went to Senegal, and around West Africa to launch my dream of knowing Africa through all my senses. I have been to 24 countries (and counting) over five years of stopping everything in my life to focus on one phenomenal continent. #AfricaRocks.
