The River Between

The Rovuma river between Tanzania and Mozambique. This picture was taken on my way to Tanzania. The trip started in Pemba, where I took a bus to Mocimboa to get a charpa to the river bank to get a boat to cross over to the other side, where I walked across a beach to get another boat to take me to shore where another charpa was waiting to take me to  Kilambo border post and Mtwara to get a bus to Dar es Salaam.

I loved this trip. I was hung over when it started. I got caught breaking the law along the way, I charmed a man into giving me a loan because I forgot to withdraw money to pay for my boat ride (I was really hung over). I also bullied a border official into letting me enter Tanzania without a visa so I could get to a bank in Mtwara where I took a charpa back to Kilambo to pay for a visa, then got a charpa back to Mtwara to get a bus to Dar to get a ferry to Zanzibar.

About leratomogoatlhe

I fell in love with traveling Africa on a four day trip to Accra in 2006. I started my journeys around the continent in 2008, when I went to Senegal, and around West Africa to launch my dream of knowing Africa through all my senses. I have been to 24 countries (and counting) over five years of stopping everything in my life to focus on one phenomenal continent. #AfricaRocks.
